About Eli

My name is Eli Ko. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT #94549), a Registered Play Therapist (RPT), trained/certified in Experiential Play Therapy (EPT), and a Certified Infant Massage Educator. I am trained in a few different therapy approaches to address psychological concerns (i.e., behavioral issues, trauma, anxiety, depression, attachment, etc.) including CPP (Child-Parent Psychotherapy), PCIT (Parent-Child Interaction Therapy), TF-CBT (Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), etc. However, I have found that many of my parents and their young children I work with tend to like Experiential Play Therapy. Why? Because this form of play therapy takes a child deeper into the emotional world and targets the deeper part of the brain where change happens.

While Play Therapy is rarely a one session fix, it is the most developmentally appropriate and healthy approach I've used to help young children heal from past trauma experiences, improving behaviorally in home and school environments, and learning healthy and age-appropriate coping skills. I am also a Certified Educator of Infant Massage through Infant Massage USA. I teach parent(s) how to massage their baby (3 weeks old to crawling age), which helps promote the parent/baby bond, learn their infant’s non-verbal language, help increase the flow and efficiency of the body system, and much more! The class/meeting is only for one hour per session/meeting, for a total of 5 weeks. Click here to learn more!

My Approach:

When you as the parent(s) come in for the first session, I conduct a thorough assessment by gathering information about your child from the moment of their inception to your child’s current age. I will explore with you any traumas/situations that could have impacted your child’s development, and we might find some clues as to why your child is acting out. I utilize experiential play therapy, which provides a way for your child to communicate their unmet needs, their feelings, their current state, or their traumas, etc. through play. As I observe and interact with your child, I will also support you and collaborate with you on how you can help your child outside of therapy.
